2020-2021 OCRA Membership Renewal Notice and Membership Drive

2020 has proven itself to be a year of unknowns.  For OCRA, 2020 was slated to be our celebratory year.  The Ohio Court Reporters Association was formed in 1920 when Mr. P.H. Howe, a court reporter in Toledo, reached out to the National Shorthand Reporters Association and obtained a list of the Ohio reporters who were members of NSRA at that time.  The rest is history and you can be a part of it!

Our original 2020 Annual Conference was scheduled to take place March 27-29, and just two weeks shy of gathering in Westerville to network, learn, and spend much-needed time with our OCRA family, some of the unknowns came into our lives affecting each of us professionally and personally.  2020 will forever carry the history of words and phrases such as:  COVID-19, coronavirus, unprecedented, quarantine, social distancing, remote access, Zoom (and Zoom fatigue), unemployment, adapting ... and so many more!

OCRA continues to explore opportunities for our members and our profession, opportunities which allow you to thrive during this unprecedented time.  From seeking legal guidance and an opinion regarding your ability to administer oaths remotely to having an OCRA representative serve on an Ohio Supreme Court advisory group tasked with developing specific recommendations as to how Ohio can safely resume jury trials, OCRA and your colleagues have been hard at work.

Some OCRA memberships are set to expire on June 30, 2020.  We hope you will consider remaining a part of OCRA and renew your membership today.  If you are not a member, please join your association right here in Ohio.  Because we know that many in our profession have experienced a sudden financial hardship, we understand that an OCRA membership may not rank high on your must-pay list.  But we are in this together!  If you are in need of payment options for your 2020-2021 professional membership, email OCRA to make arrangements.

Thank you for your support of OCRA.  Your membership is an investment in your family.  "Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much."  (Helen Keller)

I look forward to seeing you September 11-13 at OCRA's rescheduled* 2020 Annual Conference.  Stay safe!

Sincerely,

2020-2021 OCRA President Tammy McGhee
